Desain velg mobil sangat beragam sesuai dengan alirannya. Misalkan ada pelek off road, touring, sporty ataupun kemewahan. Pilihan desain velg tersebut acap kali membuat sebagian pencinta otomotif gelap mata dan ingin langsung membelinya. Anda boleh punya selera desain velg yang tinggi, tapi harus pikirkan pelek ban jenis apa yang sesuai kebutuhan mobil. Pastikan juga ukuran velg ban sesuai dengan rekomendasi.

Jangan Sembarangan Ganti PCD Velg
Hal lain yang harus menjadi perhatian saat mengganti velg adalah pitch circle diameter (PCD). Dilansir dari oto.com, PCD adalah diameter pola baut pada roda. Spesifikasi tersebut bisa dilihat pada velg mobil Anda. Misalnya jika pada pelek tertera tulisan 4×100, itu artinya pelek terdiri dari empat lubang dengan PCD 100 milimeter (mm).
Sederhananya, jika mobil A memiliki empat baut dengan ukuran PCD 100 mm, sedangkan mobil B memiliki PCD 114 mm, maka jangan harap kedua mobil tersebut bisa berbagi velg. Sayangnya, masalah tersebut kerap kali dipaksakan sebagian pencinta otomotif dengan memodifikasi jumlah baut roda ataupun PCD-nya.
Memang jumlah baut dan PCD bisa diubah, namun hal tersebut sangat berisiko. Karena bisa berimbas pada kekuatan dan geometri sistem penggerak roda. Jika dipaksakan, bukan tidak mungkin velg mobil bisa pecah dan membahayakan nyawa Anda.

Bobot Velg
Seperti diketahui, setiap pabrikan mobil telah menghitung bobot dan ukuran ban serta velg yang pas. Baik dari sisi teknis, maupun ekonomis. Dilihat dari sisi teknis, hal ini berhubungan dengan sistem pengereman mobil. Sederhananya, jika bobot velg mobil Anda melebihi standar pabrikan tentu akan membutuhkan jarak dan waktu saat menghentikan mobil.
Sementara dari sisi ekonomis, ban dan velg yang berat tentu akan membuat mesin bekerja ekstra untuk menggerakkan roda. Mesin yang dipaksakan untuk menggerakkan roda tersebut, tentu saja akan membuat bensin lebih boros.
Dari penjelasan tersebut, para pencinta otomotif kini harus pikirkan dengan matang jika ingin upgrade velg ban. Alih-alih ingin tampil gaya dengan velg ban idaman, justru akan berakibat buruk terhadap keselamatan saat berkendara.
